OUR GOVERNMENT, A PRIMER

Our government is represented by three divisions. You remember this from basis civics class in high school. The three are Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. The Executive is of course, the President and the Vice President. The Legislative is the Congress. The Judicial then is the Supreme Court and the judicial system. Each division of government has their own duties. The executive, the President, cannot make law. He can issue executive orders that are only good for his term in office and even at that can be overturned by the Supreme Court. Laws are made by the legislative branch and signed by the President. If he doesn't like a law, he can veto it. The Legislature can then override his veto with a two-thirds vote. The Judicial also cannot make laws. They, acting as referees, decide on the constitutionality of a law to decide if it truly becomes the law of the land. So, there are the three branches of government. 

 

I point out this little lesson to inform you that the Supreme Court has just invalidated a very questionable law enacted fifty years ago. That, of course, Roe V. Wade. That law basically allowed abortions on demand up to the actual birth of the baby. That law is now overturned. It doesn't mean that you can't get an abortion, it just means that the individual states must make their own laws regarding abortion. Several states have already responded with their plans. Several will continue to offer abortion on demand and many will outlaw the practice. 

 

Biden has expressed his unhappiness with the ruling and has challenged the Congress to pass clear laws governing abortion. If he likes the law, he will sign it. Now, even if he signs it and somebody challenges the new law, the Supreme Court may well have to revisit the issue. It's important to understand that the actual issue of abortion is not necessarily what they will be ruling on but rather the constitutionality of the law before them. Abortion is now a state issue and not a federal.

 

The Roe decision was six to three with what many consider the more conservative judges voting to overturn while the liberal judges voted against it. You have to make your own decision. I personally believe that the conservative members are actually more attuned to the Constitution and rule accordingly. Not so for the liberals. To me and other naive individuals, Supreme Court Justices should rule only on the constitutional basis of a law with no politics involved. Silly me. 

 

Biden has said he wants the Congress to pass new laws codifying legalized abortion. I doubt that he can pull that off. Too many Members have to run for re-election and they don't want that hanging on their heads. Speaking of Biden, I have seen recent news reports of people demanding the resignation of Joe Biden. That, dear readers, ain't gonna happen. He will hang on until we kick him out. After the November election a Republican Congress will neuter him until we do get rid of him. Even big named Democrats are getting on board. They absolutely do not want him on the ballot in 2024. Their problem is simple. They don't have any alternative. Can you come up with a candidate for them? Me neither.

 

Inflation is going to be with us for a while yet. It will be painful, but we will deal with it. It will truly end when politicians come to understand what inflation does to their futures as politicians. To quote a former Democrat official, "It's the economy, stupid." Yes it is.

HOLDING OUT HOPE

It was just announced that inflation continues at 8.6%. It is all too obvious to thinking people what that means. The price of everything will continue to be out of sight. Gasoline and diesel lead the way for most all of the increases, but nothing is exempt. Basic needs are becoming unaffordable for many people, especially those on the lower end of the economic scale.

 

Some of you may remember a column I wrote just after Biden canceled the Keystone Pipeline and halted drilling on public lands. I said then and I repeat today, that was the beginning of the destruction of the economy of this country. In less than two years in office he has succeeded in bringing America to her knees. I have heard it reported that the increase in the cost of fossil fuels is a part of their plan. It seems they want everybody in an electric vehicle. First of all, electric cars are very expensive. Secondly, there are very few places where you can recharge your car. Last week I was at Sam's getting a gasoline fill up for my car. There were about 25 fuel pumping stations and they were all being used. Average time for a fill up is about 10 minutes. I don't think they have an electric recharging station. Walmart does have 2 such stations and it takes an average of about 30 minutes to recharge one car. In that same time maybe 50 cars can refill with gasoline and be on their way. The biggest problem with liberals is they can't connect the dots.  Unless the fuel sellers make some major changes, no one will buy an electric car.  

 

Speaking of inflation, here's another thought. Like many of you I receive Social Security benefits. This year we were granted a very nice increase in our checks. I think the increase was 8.3%. Sadly, at the same time Medicare costs increased. Then, within the first two months of the year, my new benefit was gone due to price increases. Now, a few months later, my cost of living has gotten out of control. My cost of fuel has doubled. My grocery bill has increased, not by 8% but closer to 25%. In fact, virtually everything we buy has increased. And, we are told, there is no end in sight.

 

I have been listening to Biden blaming everything under the sun for inflation except for the real reasons. Maybe he truly doesn't know. Maybe he's just another politician in office because of a liberal media and under continued protection by that same media. Or maybe he's just stupid. His poll numbers are in the toilet to be sure, but the question I have is who are the 25% who think he's doing a good job? Are they happy to pay $5.00 for a gallon of gasoline? And many are paying much more. Are they glad to pay 25% more for groceries? We are told that these prices will get much worse before they get any lower. Is this what they want?

 

I am holding out hope for November. We will have another election and I truly believe Republicans will make huge gains probably taking over the Senate and the House. If that happens, America has a chance of surviving. If the Democrats hold on to their majorities, I predict doom for this country. In the meantime, watch your pennies. Be careful with your spending. I'm watching the Stock Market sink like a lead balloon. It will soon be lower than when Biden took office. Now that takes talent. Hang in there. It is going to get better, I promise.

TOO MANY GUNS???

Another school shooting. This one was especially terrible. These victims were fourth graders. Equally tragic was the fact that the shooter was an eighteen-year-old kid. It has been reported that his father is non-existent and his mother is in jail on drug charges. This punk started his day by shooting his grandmother in the face. Then he was off to the elementary school to kill as many kids as he could. I do not think his choice of victims was an accident. I believe he was looking for a place where he could do his evil act with little to no resistance.  

 

The talking heads on TV are attempting to come up with reasons for why this happened. I'll answer that for them. A wing nut who was obviously crazy decided to become famous. Well, he succeeded. He is both famous and dead. We are told he bought two rifles and a lot of ammunition as soon as he turned eighteen. This was completely legal with the laws already in place. It has been reported that this killer had an extensive juvenile record of interaction with police. Of course those records are sealed which kinda negates the value of a background check.  

 

That, of course, isn't good enough for some of the more liberal among us. I am sure they believe that if the law was a little bit more restrictive, we could have saved those kids and their teachers. Sorry liberals, but all the laws in the world will not stop a killer intent upon killing. Just look at Chicago and New York City. Their gun laws are some of the strictest in the country and yet gun crimes happen every day. As long as we keep worrying more about the tools a killer uses instead of the killer himself, we will never come close to the solutions we all seek.

 

So now here comes the politicians ready to solve the problem of too many guns. Joe Biden said this week-end that the second amendment was not what it appears. I am sure he and his ilk intend to try to either change the amendment or get rid of it all together. Well guess what Joe, that ain't gonna happen. That amendment is there to protect us from you Joe and all those who think like you. 

 

After the Florida school shooting I wrote in my column that our problem was not too many guns but actually too few guns. In that column I offered as a possible solution that we select a teacher or two, preferably veterans, in all schools, and teach them gun security and safety, then provide them with a high quality firearm. In addition, we would require them to stay qualified. At that point we would advertise that the school was under the protection of armed guards. The only way to stop a gun is with another gun. I believe if either the Florida school or the Texas school had such a program in place, the real probability would be far fewer deaths with the possible exception of the perpetrator. Do you think these nutcases would even try to take on a facility where they knew there were armed guards and they would shoot back?

 

It seems every major shooting event that happens in this country is just another invitation for liberal politicians to slide out from under their rocks and look for ways to take our freedom away. For their information my freedoms are sacred to me. Neither my freedoms nor my guns are available to be confiscated. Find another way to deal with this.

WE HAVE TO HANG ON FOR DEAR LIFE

I just watched Biden giving a speech on the reason we are having inflation. His contention is that there are two reasons for our inflation. Number one, he says, was the worldwide pandemic caused by Covid. His second reason was, in his words, Putin's war on Ukraine.  

 

Now, while both of these situations are bad, they are not the reason we are suffering this inflation. The first problem is he announced this to the world and the second big problem is that Biden might actually believe what he's saying. By placing the blame on these events, he relieves himself and his administration of the true blame. It also basically guarantees inflation will be with us for a long time. 

 

His words should prove to all who listened that this job is too big for Joe Biden. All includes Republicans and Democrats alike. He has been in and around politics in Washington for about fifty years. That should have given him sufficient knowledge to deal with these issues. It reminds me of my guitar playing. I have played the guitar for maybe seventy years, but I didn't learn anything new after the first year. So, I have been replaying my first year for seventy years. Those of you who have heard me play understand what I'm saying.

 

Now we are going to play the game "What If". What if Trump had not lost the election? Let's consider inflation. Trump would not have canceled the Keystone Pipeline or stopped drilling on public lands. Gasoline and diesel would be the same price as two years ago. We would still be energy independent and actually selling oil and gas to Europe, not begging some Middle Eastern dictator to sell us oil. Do you realize how much of our economy revolves around the cost and availability of fuel? Today diesel fuel costs around $5.50 a gallon. It is obvious who has to pay for this fuel. I saw a bumper sticker recently that said, "if you have it, it was brought to you by a trucker." Diesel fuel has more than doubled under Biden. Thanks Joe. 

 

But Ron. What about the war in Ukraine? Ok, who among you actually believes Putin would have attacked Ukraine if Trump were in the white House? He probably is crazy, but he's not stupid. Trump made our position clear to the entire world. Sadly, so has Biden. The difference is unmistakable. Trump conveyed strength and Biden's demeanor and presentations display weakness. Putin sees that. In fact, the whole world sees that. I firmly believe if Trump were still in the White House, Putin and his thug army would still be in Russia happily guzzling vodka.

 

Let's consider the southern border. If Trump were still in office we wouldn't be having a crisis there. First, by now, the border fence would probably be completed. The illegal aliens would have a much more difficult time invading this country. The illegal drugs that are pouring across that border would be greatly hampered. Remember, Trump had an agreement with Mexico that these illegals would have to stay in Mexico until their court cases could be heard. The Biden administration has done everything in their power to eliminate all things Trump and it is biting them in their posterior. 

 

For the sake of this country Biden has to be removed. If Harris proves to be the incompetent that she has displayed so far, we remove her too. In November we elect adults who have the intelligence to do the jobs. Until then we hang on for dear life.

NEVER AGAIN

When is enough, enough? Did you see the Easter Egg Roll at the White House? A couple of things happened that require comment. 

 

Biden was working the crowd when someone asked him a question about foreign affairs. Biden dutifully attempted to answer the question when suddenly the Easter Bunny interrupted and stepped in between Biden and the crowd and led him away. It turns out that Mr. Bunny was actually a staffer from the Administration. Someone, either the bunny or someone else gave the order to shut Biden up immediately. Mission accomplished. 

 

The second event that happened that day was Biden's lovely wife directing him where to stand and what to do. It was pitiful to watch. Biden looked totally lost. 

 

I have a simple question. Who is running the show? Who is in charge? Who is the President, the most powerful man in the world? Kinda scary, huh? Maybe it's the Easter Bunny. Maybe it's Mrs. Biden. Who knows? 

 

The problem here is not difficult to understand. Our enemies see the same things we see and it isn't good. They see weakness and senility when they need to see strength. 

 

One of the liberal New York newspapers recently published the possible Democrat contenders for President in 2024. Their number one was Biden. Number two was not Harris. She was number three. Number two was Pete Buttigieg. Now let's think about this. Buttigieg is living an open homosexual life where he serves as the wife. If he became President, what would we call his husband, first queer? Personally, I don't get it. 

 

Meanwhile we continue to wallow in inflation caused not by Putin, but in fact caused by Biden. While it is sad to consider, we are in this situation because Biden and his handlers decided that anything Trump created had to be destroyed and changed. Thus began the downfall of our economy, our energy independence, our place in the world, and our southern border. All of these were under control under Trump. Now they are all in free fall. Thank you Biden voters. 

 

Secretary Mayorkis just testified to Congress that the Biden Administration inherited a mess at the border caused by Trump. Attention Mr. Secretary. Nobody believes that nonsense. If you do, you are even dumber than we all thought. The mess has been caused and exacerbated by idiotic decisions coming from your department and from Biden. All because you have to blame your incompetence on Trump instead of yourself. Look in the mirror. There you will see who is actually to blame. 

 

Every day Biden gets worse. He loses his way. He has always been a screwup waiting to happen but now it is happening. He is screwing up and we will be the ones to pay for all of this. My wife asked a simple question. Surely the Democrats can see the same things we are seeing. What will they do about it? Right now Putin is probably laughing at us, while the rest of the world is shuddering.

 

One final thought. Who really believes Hunter Biden is an upstanding, honest, and just lucky individual to receive millions from China and from Russia? Who believes Joe didn't get in on the loot? They have been involved in activities that would put the Mafia to shame. Here in a country of law and order, they need to be outed and prosecuted. In November when this country begins its recovery with Republicans running the Congress, we will see just such prosecutions. 

 

You and I know Biden's election was more about a vote against Trump than a vote for Biden. The national media made their choice and would not be denied. They got their wish. And we are left to pay the bill. We all need to promise, never again.

SOME OBSERVATIONS AND SOME FREE ADVICE

Okay. Biden got his Supreme Court Justice. She is black, and she is a woman. Those were his requirements. She is also a flaming liberal who has been overturned many, many times. Had I been picking a justice I would probably have had different requirements. The fact that she is a black woman neither qualifies nor disqualifies her. I would be more concerned that she could read and understand English. And that she had a thorough understanding of the Constitution. Oh, and that she knew what a woman was.

 

The next issue rearing its ugly head is our southern border. Article 42 is in place to keep individuals in Mexico if they represent significant threat due to various diseases. It is not just for covid but many diseases like tuberculosis for example. Biden is set to lift this restriction on May 23. The border control people tell us that when this article is lifted, tens of thousands will rush our border. Too many to be dealt with. We are told by the time Biden's term has ended, fully 20% of the population in America will be illegal aliens. That's not a happy thought. 

 

This brings us to ugly number three. That is Putin's invasion and slaughter of thousands in Ukraine. It was just reported that over 100,000 children have been kidnapped by his thug army and taken to Russia. Like you, I ask how is this possible? Why is the free world looking the other way? I suspect they fear Putin's nuclear capability. Well guess what. We also have nuclear capability and it probably is far superior to Putin's. It is well past time that we put the hammer down and send what would be left of Putin's army back to their rat hole country. Then we should immediately arrest Putin for war crimes. This is the 21st century. We no longer are tribal crazies. Putin needs to learn that.

 

Shame on Putin but also shame on the free world for allowing this brutal carnage to continue. Are we so afraid of this little punk that we look the other way? Putin should be the one who is afraid. And we should immediately give him reasons to fear. As long as dictators like Putin are in power, we have to face the very real possibility of war. Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan backed them down to bring an end to the USSR. It can happen again. The problem is, of course, Joe Biden is no Ronald Reagan.

 

Let's talk inflation. Biden says he is doing everything he can do to bring down inflation which he calls the Putin price hikes. I believe he is doing everything he knows to do to deal with the terrible inflation which he caused, not Putin. That's the problem. He doesn't seem to understand that it was his actions which caused this mess. His first step must be to restart our fossil fuel industry. Open up our pipelines. Open up our public lands for drilling and exploring. That would be a good start. It is amazing how that move would start the ball rolling. 

 

Finally, get a message to Putin and the Russian people. That message is simple. Bring your troops home and keep them there. Return the kidnapped children your thug soldiers took. Do so immediately or we, the free world, will take out a few cities in Russia. We will bomb Russia back to the 19th century. If you even think about using any nuclear weapon, there will be nothing left of Moscow for years in the future.

HANG ON FOR NOVEMBER

I suspect that one of the busiest people in Washington is the guy who figures out how to spin Biden's latest blunders. This last trip to Europe produced some of the biggest of his presidency. Then, the spin doctors have to walk everything back as if no one was paying attention. They have to pretend there is no tape or video. I can imagine the room they are in and someone says nobody is going to believe this one. Then the chief spin doctor says of course they will. They've believed everything we have told them in the past. So, they get to work. The problem is, they probably are right. It's been going on for years. 

 

The next problem is the embarrassment of it all. Our enemies and our friends get our published news also. They see and hear what we all see and hear. I suspect they also see weakness. Our enemies love it when we show weakness. 

 

Biden obviously isn't the first to step on his tongue. Politicians have been doing it for years. But they seem to get away with it. One reason of course is the media which refuses to hold them to account. 

 

Speaking of holding people to account. Let's talk Hunter Biden. First of all, nobody with half a brain believes he was paid all those millions for his brilliance. He was obviously peddling influence. The laptop is real. The incriminating information on that laptop is also real. The big guy referred to in the language was without doubt Joe Biden. I wonder what his cut was. Hunter Biden has spent much of his life as a crackhead doper. I doubt he has ever had a real job. Now he's a millionaire. Is this a great country or what?

 

So, how does this all happen? Well, it helps if your father is the Vice President of the US. It even gets better when he becomes President. It also helps when the national media and the social media companies decide who they want to be President and who they do not want. That means that they question nothing about Biden. They allowed Joe Biden to run his campaign hiding in his basement. He had a free run.  

 

The media got their wish. They got an imbecile as President. Under his so-called leadership, this country has virtually gone backwards. In one year he has shown us his true nature. 

 

Our hope is for November. When the next election is over, I am all for impeachment of both Uncle Joe and Kamela. Then we start over again. Pelosi will also be gone because her majority will be gone. All we have to do is hang on.
