COULD IT BE?

As we have discussed so many times before, there seems to be a condition in Washington that cannot be denied. That condition is commonly known as "Trump derangement syndrome."

As we look for reasons the FBI and the Attorney General found it necessary to invade Trump's private home with a squad of armed agents, perhaps that syndrome could be in play. They had to know that their act would inflame millions of Trump supporters as well as many others across the country. Or could it be that they actually thought Trump was a bad guy who would betray his country? They can't be that stupid, can they?

Some have opined that this ill-fated raid was because of the January 6th madness. I have tried to watch some of that hearing but have come away with the feeling that these are just a bunch of Trump haters looking for ways to defame him and reduce his value as a candidate in 2024. They seem to want to make you believe that Trump is a crook who would turn on America anytime. Absolute nonsense. You may remember that Rhino Liz Cheney was a co-chair on the committee trying to convince the American public of their opinion that Trump was dirty. Did you see what happened to her as she ran for re-election to the House? She was trounced by almost 40 points. She may even believe what she is trying to sell us, but her opinion appears to be in the minority. Oh, and now that she was politically destroyed in her home state, she may decide to run for President. As she said, anything to keep Trump out of the White House. Hmmm, that might just ensure that he would take the White House. Imagine a candidate for President who cannot carry her home state. Like I said, hmmm.

Could it be the condition we have previously discussed, and that is just pure fear of Trump and his popularity? And could it be that Washington and the "mainstream" media are once again misreading America's preferences for their leaders. You may remember that Trump got 46 million votes in the last election. How many do you suppose he would get now that we have all seen what Biden and the Democrats do with the power of leadership?

I would like to make my position clear. I was not a Trump supporter originally. But he clearly accomplished more in his term than anyone in my memory and that was while he was under almost constant attack from the people whose gravy train he was derailing. Can you imagine what he might have gotten done if he was left alone?

So now, what to think about Trump in 2024? It's an interesting question. There should be no doubt in anyone's mind of his ability to govern. But, would he face the same harassment again? That is an easy answer. Of course he would. The difference this time is that he would probably have a friendly Congress and there is the very real possibility many of his previous detractors would be facing criminal charges. Some might even think twice before they attempt to lie to the American people like they did before. They might be trading in their business suits for orange coveralls. That would be fun.

The question was, could it be? I think the answer is yes. Could Trump run again? Yes. Could he win? Yes. Ron Desantis would probably be on the ticket. I would vote for them, wouldn't you?

A WELL-PLACED FEAR

Isn't it amazing what fear can cause? Our government has truly overstepped its boundaries by raiding President Trump's home in Florida. Now, what do you suppose they were looking for? It is obvious to anyone with an ounce of sense that this raid happened because the Democrats are scared to death of Trump. They don't want to face him in another election.

In my years on this earth, I have never seen a president faced with more harassment than Donald Trump. From his first day in office all the way to today the harassment has continued. Do you remember the "Russia, Russia, Russia, and Russia owns Trump" nonsense? The left played that card until it proved to be nothing more than a political dirty trick created by Hillary Clinton. Not only did she try dirty tricks, she proved herself to be a crook. I haven't seen any raids on her home yet, have you? Oh, and don't hold your breath.

Speaking of individuals who need to answer to the law for their crimes, how about Hunter Biden? And how far up the ladder do you suppose those crimes go? Is our President on the payroll of our enemy, communist China? Hunter certainly appears to be. I haven't seen any raids on their homes either. Granted there isn't much danger of Hunter Biden ever running for President. Still, we don't have two sets of laws, one for us the unwashed and another for our political elite and the politically protected. There is no way that Biden can successfully govern or deal in any discernible way with China if he is receiving or has received money from the Chinese communist party.

I understand the fear that the left has for Trump. They know how formidable he would be against any candidate the Democrats could put up. But and this is a big but, the Democrats should actually fear the 46 million voters who voted for Trump in 2016. I believe those 46 million would vote for him again plus many, many more. Even the most loyal Democrat understands their mistake in electing Biden, and I can't see any Democrat on the horizon who is capable of being president and having to clean up the absolute mess Biden has caused.

The first job then is for the Republicans to retire Nancy Pelosi and take back the House of Representatives. Then, of course, the next retirement is Chuck Schumer. The Senate must be in the hands of Republicans, and those Republicans must act like Republicans if this mess is to be cleaned up. Rhinos have to reexamine their thinking and get on board if we are to survive as a country.

We have laws. We have rules. We have the Constitution. Attention Democrats, understand this. The gravy train is ending. Accepting huge buckets of cash from foreign countries is over. Especially from our enemies. Those who choose to violate the law must face prosecution, regardless of their political position.

Recently my wife and I were having a discussion about how this country got to where we are. How did this happen? Just a few years ago political parties worked together to deal with issues we faced. Now, everything is a fight. Neither party wants the other to have any success. Our Congress is filled by individuals who are just too old to handle the job. These are just some of the problems.

This is our country and these politicians work for us. We absolutely have to hold their feet to the fire. We must demand excellence, trustworthiness, and obedience to the law. Nothing less is acceptable.

THIS COUNTRY IS A MESS

Let's consider this. We have historic levels of inflation. Our southern border is being invaded by people from all over the world. Gasoline is at a level that has never been experienced by anyone. Crime is through the roof. Feral young people are rampaging through our major cities stealing, killing, using drugs, and generally creating havoc. In other words, our country is in a mess. The question is why. Why, since most of these problems have risen and worsened in the last two years. Well, I think I have an answer.

The first problem is that the voters of this country made a terrible choice in the last election. They so disliked Trump, they appeared to go for anyone instead of Trump. So they chose one of the least competent people available.

Which now brings us to the next problem. Biden is clearly owned and operated by the ultra left wing of his party. That wing is clearly controlled by the climate worshippers. They all have this "green" agenda.

I want to make this clear. All of us want a clean planet. All of us want clean air to breathe. All of us want healthy food to eat. How we go about it is the problem. The left seems to have a scorched earth approach. Obviously that will not work. I have seen reports that say the fossil fuel necessary to produce the electricity needed to fuel electric cars and our homes and businesses far exceeds what we are using now. How does that meet the needs and wants of the climate worshippers? As of this date we do not have any other alternative.

I think an electric car would be great. But only if it doesn't bankrupt me to own and operate it. I'm told that normal operation of an electric car is far more expensive than a gasoline powered car. Does anybody know where they can recharge their car on major highways? How long would that take and how much would that cost? These are questions that must be answered before any of the agenda of the left can be a reality.

Meanwhile back to the rest of our problem. Most experts believe the Congress will be back in the hands of the Republicans in November. That is step one. That Congress will have three major jobs. Number one will be to restrain Biden and his leftie handlers. In other words, to stop him in his tracks. Number two will be to unwind as much of the nonsense he has created as is possible. That means changing the attitude of this country. Making sure our laws are obeyed and enforced including people high up in political circles. Hunter needs to be in prison along with anybody who was in cahoots with him and I mean anyone. The southern border has to be closed. Finish the wall. Arrest and jail people who choose to trespass. Number three should then be quite simple. Take back the White House from the Democrats for the good of the country.

There is no doubt that our great country is split. That needs to be mended. Our educational system is a mess. Many college and university professors don't show proper allegiance to America. I would require a loyalty oath in writing from all of them. Any who refuse would be terminated so then they would have to find a real job. I would declare the teacher’s union a criminal organization along with BLM. Cops need to be supported. Laws need to be obeyed and enforced.

All of this is really simple. I would like our country to be more like it was in the 50s. If you were around then, you know what I mean.

IT'S NOT THE AXE

It's not the axe that chops down the tree. It's the lumberjack who swings the axe that chops down the tree. That shouldn't be a mystery to anyone. I report this in light of recent mass killings where different weapons were used. At the recent Independence Day Parade a high powered rifle was used. A few days earlier the killer used a vehicle to mow down several victims. Just today, the most popular politician in Japan was assassinated by a killer with a ghost gun. What is a ghost gun? It's a homemade weapon made with a computer and a copier.

Here is an inescapable fact. Any implement in the hands of an individual bent on killing can be an assault weapon. Sometimes they just use their hands as weapons. What I'm saying is, it's not the weapon, it's not the tool being used. It's the killer who is the villain. Any rifle, handgun, sword, baseball bat, or knife are just dust gatherers sitting in the corner until they get into the hands of a killer.

Too often when these killings happen, liberal politicians use it as a talking point. They decry the Second Amendment. They blame all guns and all gun owners. You don't have to look very far to see what happens when normal, good citizens are disarmed. It's not a happy sight. Japan has no Second Amendment, but all guns are illegal there. That didn't stop the assassin of former Prime Minister Abe.

I recently heard an anti-gun advocate say that he would be okay with the Second Amendment if people just carried muskets. His claim was that when the amendment was written muskets were the only long guns available. Using that same nonsensical argument would we feel the same about cars and speed limits? How about all of our modern medicines? How should we deal with air conditioning? None of these things were available when this country was being formed. Let's face it, we have advanced and we have invented new and modern tools and implements to make our lives easier.

When the amendments to the Constitution were written they also included the First Amendment. The guarantee of free speech. Media then might be an orator speaking on the corner. Newspapers were hand produced. That amendment still protects our speech. Today we have the internet, major newspapers, television, and all manner of communication. No, we no longer carry muskets. We also don't hitch up horses to pull our wagons to town. Those towns and highways are much more crowded. People are more impatient. Mental illness is much more common than in the past. Liberal lawmakers have made it easier to be a criminal. Crazy District Attorneys put bad guys back on the street with little more than a slap on the wrist. And confused voters keep electing them to office.

The pure reality is, somethings gotta give. Today there are more guns in America than people. I am a gun owner. I have these guns for hunting but also to protect my family and myself from any assault, whether from a criminal or from my own government. The people I know who own guns are not going to give them up, period. We are America. We are not Venezuela, China, Russia, or any country where the residents are subjects, not citizens. Guns allowed us to become the free country we are and private gun ownership will ensure that we remain free.

OUR GOVERNMENT, A PRIMER

Our government is represented by three divisions. You remember this from basis civics class in high school. The three are Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. The Executive is of course, the President and the Vice President. The Legislative is the Congress. The Judicial then is the Supreme Court and the judicial system. Each division of government has their own duties. The executive, the President, cannot make law. He can issue executive orders that are only good for his term in office and even at that can be overturned by the Supreme Court. Laws are made by the legislative branch and signed by the President. If he doesn't like a law, he can veto it. The Legislature can then override his veto with a two-thirds vote. The Judicial also cannot make laws. They, acting as referees, decide on the constitutionality of a law to decide if it truly becomes the law of the land. So, there are the three branches of government.

I point out this little lesson to inform you that the Supreme Court has just invalidated a very questionable law enacted fifty years ago. That, of course, Roe V. Wade. That law basically allowed abortions on demand up to the actual birth of the baby. That law is now overturned. It doesn't mean that you can't get an abortion, it just means that the individual states must make their own laws regarding abortion. Several states have already responded with their plans. Several will continue to offer abortion on demand and many will outlaw the practice.

Biden has expressed his unhappiness with the ruling and has challenged the Congress to pass clear laws governing abortion. If he likes the law, he will sign it. Now, even if he signs it and somebody challenges the new law, the Supreme Court may well have to revisit the issue. It's important to understand that the actual issue of abortion is not necessarily what they will be ruling on but rather the constitutionality of the law before them. Abortion is now a state issue and not a federal.

The Roe decision was six to three with what many consider the more conservative judges voting to overturn while the liberal judges voted against it. You have to make your own decision. I personally believe that the conservative members are actually more attuned to the Constitution and rule accordingly. Not so for the liberals. To me and other naive individuals, Supreme Court Justices should rule only on the constitutional basis of a law with no politics involved. Silly me.

Biden has said he wants the Congress to pass new laws codifying legalized abortion. I doubt that he can pull that off. Too many Members have to run for re-election and they don't want that hanging on their heads. Speaking of Biden, I have seen recent news reports of people demanding the resignation of Joe Biden. That, dear readers, ain't gonna happen. He will hang on until we kick him out. After the November election a Republican Congress will neuter him until we do get rid of him. Even big named Democrats are getting on board. They absolutely do not want him on the ballot in 2024. Their problem is simple. They don't have any alternative. Can you come up with a candidate for them? Me neither.

Inflation is going to be with us for a while yet. It will be painful, but we will deal with it. It will truly end when politicians come to understand what inflation does to their futures as politicians. To quote a former Democrat official, "It's the economy, stupid." Yes it is.

HOLDING OUT HOPE

It was just announced that inflation continues at 8.6%. It is all too obvious to thinking people what that means. The price of everything will continue to be out of sight. Gasoline and diesel lead the way for most all of the increases, but nothing is exempt. Basic needs are becoming unaffordable for many people, especially those on the lower end of the economic scale.

Some of you may remember a column I wrote just after Biden canceled the Keystone Pipeline and halted drilling on public lands. I said then and I repeat today, that was the beginning of the destruction of the economy of this country. In less than two years in office he has succeeded in bringing America to her knees. I have heard it reported that the increase in the cost of fossil fuels is a part of their plan. It seems they want everybody in an electric vehicle. First of all, electric cars are very expensive. Secondly, there are very few places where you can recharge your car. Last week I was at Sam's getting a gasoline fill up for my car. There were about 25 fuel pumping stations and they were all being used. Average time for a fill up is about 10 minutes. I don't think they have an electric recharging station. Walmart does have 2 such stations and it takes an average of about 30 minutes to recharge one car. In that same time maybe 50 cars can refill with gasoline and be on their way. The biggest problem with liberals is they can't connect the dots.  Unless the fuel sellers make some major changes, no one will buy an electric car.

Speaking of inflation, here's another thought. Like many of you I receive Social Security benefits. This year we were granted a very nice increase in our checks. I think the increase was 8.3%. Sadly, at the same time Medicare costs increased. Then, within the first two months of the year, my new benefit was gone due to price increases. Now, a few months later, my cost of living has gotten out of control. My cost of fuel has doubled. My grocery bill has increased, not by 8% but closer to 25%. In fact, virtually everything we buy has increased. And, we are told, there is no end in sight.

I have been listening to Biden blaming everything under the sun for inflation except for the real reasons. Maybe he truly doesn't know. Maybe he's just another politician in office because of a liberal media and under continued protection by that same media. Or maybe he's just stupid. His poll numbers are in the toilet to be sure, but the question I have is who are the 25% who think he's doing a good job? Are they happy to pay $5.00 for a gallon of gasoline? And many are paying much more. Are they glad to pay 25% more for groceries? We are told that these prices will get much worse before they get any lower. Is this what they want?

I am holding out hope for November. We will have another election and I truly believe Republicans will make huge gains probably taking over the Senate and the House. If that happens, America has a chance of surviving. If the Democrats hold on to their majorities, I predict doom for this country. In the meantime, watch your pennies. Be careful with your spending. I'm watching the Stock Market sink like a lead balloon. It will soon be lower than when Biden took office. Now that takes talent. Hang in there. It is going to get better, I promise.

TOO MANY GUNS???

Another school shooting. This one was especially terrible. These victims were fourth graders. Equally tragic was the fact that the shooter was an eighteen-year-old kid. It has been reported that his father is non-existent and his mother is in jail on drug charges. This punk started his day by shooting his grandmother in the face. Then he was off to the elementary school to kill as many kids as he could. I do not think his choice of victims was an accident. I believe he was looking for a place where he could do his evil act with little to no resistance.

The talking heads on TV are attempting to come up with reasons for why this happened. I'll answer that for them. A wing nut who was obviously crazy decided to become famous. Well, he succeeded. He is both famous and dead. We are told he bought two rifles and a lot of ammunition as soon as he turned eighteen. This was completely legal with the laws already in place. It has been reported that this killer had an extensive juvenile record of interaction with police. Of course those records are sealed which kinda negates the value of a background check.

That, of course, isn't good enough for some of the more liberal among us. I am sure they believe that if the law was a little bit more restrictive, we could have saved those kids and their teachers. Sorry liberals, but all the laws in the world will not stop a killer intent upon killing. Just look at Chicago and New York City. Their gun laws are some of the strictest in the country and yet gun crimes happen every day. As long as we keep worrying more about the tools a killer uses instead of the killer himself, we will never come close to the solutions we all seek.

So now here comes the politicians ready to solve the problem of too many guns. Joe Biden said this week-end that the second amendment was not what it appears. I am sure he and his ilk intend to try to either change the amendment or get rid of it all together. Well guess what Joe, that ain't gonna happen. That amendment is there to protect us from you Joe and all those who think like you.

After the Florida school shooting I wrote in my column that our problem was not too many guns but actually too few guns. In that column I offered as a possible solution that we select a teacher or two, preferably veterans, in all schools, and teach them gun security and safety, then provide them with a high quality firearm. In addition, we would require them to stay qualified. At that point we would advertise that the school was under the protection of armed guards. The only way to stop a gun is with another gun. I believe if either the Florida school or the Texas school had such a program in place, the real probability would be far fewer deaths with the possible exception of the perpetrator. Do you think these nutcases would even try to take on a facility where they knew there were armed guards and they would shoot back?

It seems every major shooting event that happens in this country is just another invitation for liberal politicians to slide out from under their rocks and look for ways to take our freedom away. For their information my freedoms are sacred to me. Neither my freedoms nor my guns are available to be confiscated. Find another way to deal with this.
