WORK? OR JOBS?

On a recent campaign stop President Obama said that if Congress would just pass his “Jobs Bill,” which he says he sent to them a year ago, he could create a million new jobs almost immediately. Wow, that sounds really good, doesn’t it? A million new jobs.

Well, as usual, a closer examination of the facts brings us back to reality. The absolute last thing this economy needs is a million new government (taxpayer) funded pencil pushers and paper stackers. You see there is a big difference between jobs and work. As we have discussed ad nauseum, the government doesn’t produce anything. The jobs Obama is talking about is not real work. Now if you are one of the twenty-three million unemployed I suppose any sort of income producer would do. But, these government “jobs” are not real work. What they are is  government welfare.

Jobs which are actual work are produced by private business creating products or services that are sold for profit. Governments do not produce any product. Governments do not create any profit. The only things governments produce are regulations and taxes. The reason Obama’s “Jobs Bill” hasn’t passed Congress is simple, there is no provision in the bill to pay for it. Funding such a government welfare bill would have to be with more borrowed money thereby further increasing our overwhelming deficit. All that would do is kick the can down the road. Eventually the preacher has to be paid. Eventually, if you are to dance, the band has to be paid. There is no free lunch and all other trite metaphors one can think of.

Why is this so hard for the people in power who should know better, to understand? It seems that when people are sent to Washington to conduct the business of government, they park their brains at the door before they enter. Nothing from nothing leaves nothing. If you put two people in a room and give them a dollar, all the trading in the world, all the regulation, all the taxes, all or any activity performed by these two people produces nothing more than the original dollar. That, my friends, is an economic reality. The government doesn’t sell anything. They only spend money. In other words, they aren’t the answer.

For our economy to recover we need productive work. We need private business, big and small, to unleash the great economic engine which had driven us for the past several decades, and all that business is asking is for the government to get out of the way.

I watched on TV today as a fifty-eight year old man who had been unemployed for six years told his story. It was sad. His observation was that there are so many unemployed people that employers can have very strict requirements for employment. They have so many to choose from and rarely does that choice include fifty-eight year old men. If our economy was anywhere close to normal this man would be employed immediately. Today his jobless benefits have expired and he has few options.

Frankly the people we have employed in Washington from the President on down to include the Congress have failed miserably. They are not helping start this economic engine.

My request is simple. To all of you who serve the people in our Capitol, get off your collective butts and get busy. Rein in the EPA. Approve the Keystone pipeline. Repeal Obamacare. Lower taxes on everybody. The sooner this happens the sooner this problem will be solved. It is going to happen. It can happen with you or without you. Your choice. Perhaps a period of unemployment might help you understand. If you don’t get this matter solved, unemployment is definitely in your future.

IS IT HATE OR IS IT FEAR?

For some time I have been aware of the almost visceral hate for Sarah Palin by some liberals. I also noticed that same hatred for Herman Cain when he was running for President. Now, with the Republican convention just finished, the liberals have a new target for their hatred. He is Marco Rubio.

I began to wonder why. Why are these accomplished individuals so despised by the left? Is it because one is a woman, one is black, and one is hispanic? That can’t be right. The left holds no prejudice against anyone because of gender, race or national origin, right? So, it must be something else.

I think I may have come up with the answer. They, the left, don’t hate these three people, they fear them. They are scared to death of a strong independent woman who doesn’t “know her place.” They fear a black man who has escaped the plantation, a black man who doesn’t refer to his white superiors as “Massa.” They are frightened beyond belief of any hispanic who thinks for a moment that he can succeed based on his personal initiative. You see these three are the epitome of what America truly is, not what the liberals think it should be.

It has been amusing to me to watch the national news media struggle to report on people like these three. The media knows they are news. They know they are popular. They know the country wants to hear about them. They just don’t know how to report on them and be true to their leftist agenda. I feel their pain. In fact I am going to do them a service. I am going to report on people like these plantation escapees so as to relieve the national media of the responsibility. They can return to their agenda of re-electing Obama and keeping their collective heads in the sand concerning the massive failure of Barak Obama and his policies.

The American electorate sleep-walked through the last Presidential election, but they are waking up. The former “silent majority” will not be silent any longer. The great experiment of electing the first black president just didn’t work. Its failure was not because Obama is black, it failed because of Obama’s liberal policies.

Today I am encouraged and excited about this upcoming election. Today I truly feel we as Americans will correct the mistake we made just three and a half years ago. There is work to be done for sure, but judgement day is at hand for Barak Obama.

If you ask me if Palin, Cain or Rubio will figure in tomorrow’s politics, I cannot say. This much I will say however, America needs such people. America needs true Americans. America needs people who love this country and her traditions. There is another thing that I have learned in my time on this earth. That is that we fix our mistakes. We always have and we always will. As Clint Eastwood said during his presentation at the convention, “We own this country. Politicians are our employees. When someone cannot do the job, it’s time to let them go.” That time has come for Barak Obama.

Like Rubio said, I don’t believe Obama is a bad man. I just believe he is a bad President. He was ill prepared for the job and his results prove that conclusively. Today we have the opportunity to elect an accomplished, successful businessman to take over and fix the mess we have gotten ourselves into. My hope is that you feel the same way.

IQ TESTS FOR CONGRESS

So Rep. Todd Akin, R. Mo. believes that if a woman is “legitimately” raped, as opposed to illegitimately raped???, her body will deny its biology and prevent a pregnancy from happening. Hum!, very interesting. Rep. Hank Johnson, D. Ga. believes that if too many troops are stationed on Guam and they happen to go to one side of the island, it will tip over and capsize. All of the people will slide into the ocean. Also very interesting, wouldn’t you say? Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D. Tx., when visiting JPL, the jet propulsion lab, asked if she could see the picture of Neil Armstrong planting the flag on Mars. She apparently doesn’t know the difference between Mars and the moon. Incidentally she serves on the House Space Committee’s space subcommittee. Well placed assignment, huh?

Where is this all headed? I think I could write several pages of boneheaded actions of some members of Congress. These three noted above are by no means all of them. What we have here are three morons who are serving in the Congress of the United States and idiocy is no respecter of party. Both Republicans and Democrats qualify.

Some will say, but Ron, districts have the right to elect anyone they want to be their Representative. If they want him or her why should I care? The problem is that while they represent a small district, they serve in a body which is much larger and whose actions and votes affect the destiny of 330 million people, including me. Do you suppose they vote based on their intelligence? Sheila Jackson Lee, according to her web site, is a graduate of the University of Virginia and Yale University. I wonder what her major was? I bet it didn’t have anything to do with outer space. Akin represents a primarily white, conservative district. Johnson and Lee’s districts are majority black. I am sure one of the first requirements to being elected in a primarily black district is to be black. I certainly understand that and have no problem with it but that should not be the only requirement. Akin’s district is as he is, conservative and white. Again those should not be the only requirements. The problem is, of course, these individual representatives when elected are inflicted on the entire country as Members of Congress. These morons show up for work in Washington completely incapable of even the most basic understanding of the legislative process. You can easily see the results.

This then is my proposal. Why couldn’t we have a simple standard IQ test for people who want to run for Congress? There are other Constitutionally mandated requirements. Why not require them to have at least a base level of intelligence. I can see it now. As a part of their campaign literature, they would offer not only their educational background but in addition their IQ scores. It is pretty obvious that graduating from the University of Virginia or Yale doesn’t guarantee intelligence.

We, as a country, are rapidly approaching a time when just a pretty face or a strong oratory will not get the job done. It is easy to see what that has brought us. We need smart people doing smart things. The last thing on earth we need is idiots who speak out when they should be quiet, example Joe Biden. I remember the old saying, “It is far better to just sit silently and let everybody think you are stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.” These morons I have described above should have taken this old adage to heart.

PAUL RYAN AS VP PICK

Prior to Paul Ryan’s selection as VP candidate I, along with most of you, had many favorites. I like Rubio. I like Rice. I like Huckabee. Any of a number of people would have been okay with me. The problem with picking any Republican Senator is obvious. We need them in the Senate. Condi Rice would have created a conversation surrounding race and gender and little else. That is the last thing we need. The fact that she is one of the most accomplished women in America would quickly be lost on the left. Huckabee is probably too religious to be elected on a national ticket. And so we have Ryan.

Let me just say this upfront. I am an ABO voter. That simply means anybody but Obama. In my view he has been an unmitigated disaster and if he is re-elected, it will only get worse. Romney is a businessman. He has experience as a businessman. That is just what this country needs today, period, end of story.

Now to Ryan. He is a young, attractive Congressman from Wisconsin who has had experience dealing with both the press and the Congress. He is a real person with a real story. He is a family man. He is a hunter. He is a big advocate of the second amendment. I heard some Democrat complaining that he had no foreign policy experience. Oh, compared to whom? Barak Obama for example? Ryan has offered a budget. The Democrats haven’t produced a budget since 2009. I think Ryan has the right stuff and will be a tremendous asset to this ticket and to the country after he and Romney are elected in November.

Obviously the most important issue facing this country today is the economy. Obama has proven conclusively that he cannot handle the task of dealing with this most basic problem. He has zero experience in business. From his own pronouncements it is also clear he doesn’t understand how our economy works. He has never met a payroll. He has never had to create a product or make a profit. In fact the only job he has ever held is that of “community organizer,” whatever that is. Romney is the exact opposite of Obama. He is an accomplished individual who has been successful in every endeavor he has attempted. He is a self made man who has attained great wealth. We call it the “American Dream.”

There is a reason the Obama re-election campaign is focused only on negative attack ads. There is absolutely nothing positive about Obama’s presidency to even talk about let alone brag.

So now we have a ticket. Next will come the debates. Can you just imagine a debate between Joe Biden and Paul Ryan? I have heard it said that Biden is an individual whose tray is never quite in the complete, upright and locked position. He has been described as a french fry short of a happy meal. Debates between Biden and Ryan will tell you everything you need to know about the qualifications of these two men. Can you just imagine such a discussion? It should prove to be very entertaining to say the least.

Today the polls are all over the place.Who knows what is true. Personally I don’t believe the people of this country are dumb enough to put Obama back in the White House for another term.  The big bankers of Wall Street have refused to contribute to Obama’s re-election. There is a reason for that. We are a country in serious trouble and that trouble has been caused in large part by Barak Obama and his policies. Our very future depends on getting rid of this charlatan and hiring a real American to replace him. The Romney/Ryan ticket is that way.

SHOPPING FOR UNDERWEAR

It was pointed out to me in a recent conversation with my bride of what will be fifty years this December, that I needed some new underwear. Now I’ve got to tell you, I don’t pay much attention to underwear. Don’t get me wrong. I wear it. I just don’t pay much attention to it. I shower then I look in the drawer of my dresser and there is, as if by magic, underwear. You could say, if you are an old timer like me, there are always drawers in my drawers. But I digress.

The whole conversation got me to thinking about shopping for underwear. You see, I don’t think I ever did. I mean I don’t think I ever actually shopped for underwear. In re-examining my life, I went from a mother to a first sergeant to a wife. I have never had to actually buy my own underwear. I wouldn’t know how or where to begin. As a child it was always just there. When I was in the Army, it was just there. When I then got a wife, the pattern continued. I don’t know what size my underwear is. I don’t know what style it is. I just know it is always there.

Some of you out there may think this is strange. I don’t. As we live our lives, we develop patterns. We develop habits. We decide what works for us. Having a wife who makes my underwear decision just works for me.

Having said that however, another issue rears its ugly head. What if I had to buy my own underwear? What if, when I looked into my dresser, there was no underwear? This is the simple question my ever caring and helpful wife asks. What if there was suddenly no wife there? On many levels that is a terrifying thought. What if I had to do my own laundry? What if I had to make my own bed?

Normally I would never even consider these minor questions. I save my thought processes for the big, important problems. I’m all about saving the world and feeding the hungry and electing Republicans. There is little time for frivolity such as the mundane matters of laundry and underwear.

I should consider myself fortunate though, she told me. I have a wife who is skillful at pointing out, in her sweet little way, my inadequacies. Like not knowing how to do laundry or how to buy underwear. Had she never brought it up, I would have continued in my ignorance. Again, a frightful thought. Well, I’m a person of average intelligence. I feed myself. How tough could buying underwear be?

So, I have made a decision. I am going to learn my underwear size. I am going to find out where it is bought and how much it costs. I am going to become a world class underwear shopper. I am going to start that task in just a little while, right after I solve these other little problems I’m working on like world hunger, world peace, and electing Republicans.

KISS IN OR KISS OFF?

It would appear the great Chick-fil-A “kiss in” was a giant “kiss off.” I was listening to a radio show moderator who happens to be a homosexual, and she said that the vast majority of the homosexual “community” opposed any such demonstration as was called for by a radical minority of that community. She said most were embarrassed by the call for a “kiss-in.” They would much rather reserve their shows of affection for the privacy of their own homes. They apparently don’t believe they are in the business of entertainment. So the whole demonstration failed.

I am sure within any group of people there are liberal people and there are conservative people, even among homosexuals. There are those who want to show off and those who prefer anonymity. I believe that while the huge turnout for the Chick-fil-A appreciation day was a demonstration of support for freedom of religion, it was also a repudiation of anyone who would attempt to regulate a business because of the religious principles of one of its executives. That turnout proved to be the best day financially Chick-fil-A ever experienced. I could not have been happier. The Chick-fil-A appreciation day was never about homosexual rights, period. This was about a revulsion and a rebellion against despotic government officials who don’t seem to know what their limits are.

Some are saying this past week was a precursor of the election in November. I doubt that, but I do believe several thousands of freedom loving citizens decided that enough is enough. They decided that the free expression of speech and religious choice as specified in the first amendment was far more important than the offense that a minority group who are habitually offended might have experienced.

One might consider this fact. The entire homosexual “community” is a minority group whose numbers may be anywhere from about .05%  to 5% of the population at any given time. While their rights are definitely important, there is still that old problem of the majority not being particularly interested. The only people who were concerned about the homosexual marriage issue were the PC police. Well guess what, most everyone else just doesn’t care. It would appear that most of the homosexuals don’t care that much either.

Some will notice and some may even possibly be offended by the fact that I don’t use the word “gay” in my essays to identify homosexuals. There is a reason for that. My dictionary, like me, is old and it offers a different definition of the word “gay.” Joyous, lively and merry, etc. are a part of the real definition of gay. Homosexuality has a completely different definition. Most of the homosexuals I have known do not fit my dictionary’s description of gay. Perhaps the ones I have known are just unhappy people. Either way, I plan to use the words I choose in my essays and go with the definitions offered in my dictionary.

The story of last week’s event involving Chick-fil-A is certainly not over. I believe the real message some politicians should have learned is that sometimes the great silent majority will refuse to be silent. Sometimes, when they are irritated enough, they will show their true colors. You can only poke a sleeping bear so much before you wake him up. This massive group of people who are normally “silent” decided to rise up and drown out a very loud fringe minority. I congratulate all who participated.

I only hope this massive group will show that same irritation and wake up in time for elections in November. Never has this country needed you more.

CHICAGO'S VALUES?

Don’t you just love arrogant, self serving politicians who take every opportunity to get their faces on television? Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel did just that when he declared that the CEO of Chick-fil-a, Dan Cathy, who for religious reasons objects to homo-sexual marriage, can’t open restaurants in Chicago because the CEO’s Christian values are not Chicago’s values. Chicago’s values? Are you kidding me? Chicago has values? What values. Is Emanuel referring to that city’s drug and gun violence which leads the nation? Maybe he is referring to their political machine which thwarts honest elections and promotes dishonesty. Do you think he might be talking about Rob Blagojevich or Richard Daley? If ever a city could use some Christian values, it is Chicago.

Once again it has become necessary to point out to these jokers that we are a people whose laws are based on a little document known as The Constitution. The very first amendment to that constitution protects every person’s freedom of religion. There is no place in the law which denies a business the right to operate because the company’s executives do not share the religious beliefs of the Mayor of that city and wouldn’t Rahm Emanuel, a Jew by the way whose ancestors have suffered throughout history at the hands of dictatorial governments, be among the first to scream about the separation between church and state? What a hypocrite.

Of course this isn’t about religion at all. This is about a politician trying to gain political advantage. By catering to a small group of people who favor homo-sexual marriage, Emanuel must believe that his action might cause his stock to go up among certain voters. That may or may not be the case in Chicago, but I assure you it is not the case in the rest of the country. Regardless of his motives his actions are illegal and a violation of the rights of Chick-fil-a and its executives. I hope CEO Cathy sues the pants off of Mayor Emanuel and any city which attempts to restrain their business illegally.

The political correctness of the left is truly amazing. Concerning homo-sexual marriage, it has everything to do with politics and absolutely nothing to do with correctness. If two or more homo-sexual adults want to live together and live as husband and husband or wife and wife, or any other combination for that matter, I don’t care. That is their choice and their problem. Marriage however, is a union designated for one man and one woman, at a time, and does not include animals, plants or any other animate or inanimate objects. No re-definition is necessary period. Married people are no more a special protected class than are unmarried people. Homo-sexual people are no more a special protected class than are hetero-sexual people. Nor are any special protections necessary. Again no re-definition is necessary.

Most major religions oppose any redefining of marriage. That is their business. Some favor it. That is likewise their business. Neither side of this issue needs special protection from the law.

Scheming, self-serving, opportunistic politicians need to read and understand the law and the Constitution. Elected officials are not chosen to be emperors.  The Emanuels and the Bloombergs and all the rest of them know better, or at least they should. Personally I intend to visit Chick-fil-a a lot more than in the past just like I plan to eat more meat on Monday and drink my soda pop from sixty ounce containers. Oh and did you hear? Bloomberg is now trying to require hospitals to lock up baby formula so that new mothers will have to breastfeed their babies, as if any of this was his business. If the people of New York continue to put up with this idiot, they have only themselves to blame. Personally I would tell these so-called officials where to put their little regulations. And to any who might object, I am not hard to find. Look me up. We’ll have a little chat.
